Denver, CO — Potencia Partners, Inc. senior technical personnel participated in the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Transformers Committee meeting held March 23–27, 2025, at the Hyatt Regency in Denver, Colorado. The firm contributed to multiple working sessions related to high- voltage equipment performance, condition monitoring, and failure diagnostics.
As part of the technical program, Dr. Ali Naderian, Director of High Voltage Services at Potencia Partners, stood in for Ismail Guner to chair the IEEE Task Force on Dielectric Frequency Response (DFR) on Instrument Transformers. This task force is developing industry guidance for the application and interpretation of DFR testing to assess insulation systems in instrument transformers—particularly under service-aged or degraded conditions.
Dr. Naderian, a senior IEEE member and co-author of several transformer testing guides, provided technical direction on measurement parameters, test frequency ranges, and the impact of environmental factors on DFR results. The task force’s objective is to standardize the use of this technique for enhanced diagnostic clarity across diverse operating environments.
Our participation in this task force reinforces Potencia Partners' commitment to advancing diagnostic methodologies that improve long-term asset performance and support condition-based maintenance strategies,” said Marcus Turner, CEO. In addition to the DFR task force, Potencia Partners staff engaged with working groups related to:
-IEEE C57.161 (DFR Guide for Power Transformers)
-IEEE 693 (Seismic Qualification)
-C57 transformer failure forensics and root cause analysis
-Field application challenges in partial discharge and oil diagnostics
The IEEE PES Transformers Committee continues to serve as a central platform for development of IEEE standards and guides used globally in the design, testing, and maintenance of power and instrument transformers.
